Nearby you will find Camber Sands-one of the best sandy beaches in England, Winchelsea-another old town with its ancient church and abbey ruins. A little Further afield there is a fairy tale castle in Bodiam and Battle abbey built next to the site of the battle of Hastings. There is also an array of gardens and museums open to the public- you can even pop to France for the day as the channel tunnel is only 40 minutes drive away!
Apart from Rye's varied attractions there are also many places of interest a short drive or even a walk away. Camber sands has one of the nicest beaches on the south coast. Winchelsea town is a smaller version of Rye and well worth a visit. Bodiam has an impressive moated castle to see. Hastings has many attractions including a ruined castle, the sea life centre, the caves experience and a pier. Or why not visit battle abbey where the 1066 invasion really took place! Why not pop over to France for the day. The channel tunnel is only 40 minutes drive. |
